Solarflare Communications says it has begun sampling what it calls the industry’s first 40nm quad-port 10GBase-T PHY chip. Solarflare’s fourth-generation PHY―the SFT9104―has passed testing on links up to 100 metres. Combined with low power and data centre features, Solarflare believes the SFT9104 enables a new class of high-density modular switches and servers, “setting a new performance and cost point for 10GbE connectivity”. Under normal 100-m operation, the SFT9104 consumes 2.5 watts per port. The chip has multiple data centre power modes, including a 1.5W low power and latency mode for in-the-rack apps. The SFT9104 is fully backward compatible with both 1000Base-T and 100Base-TX, enabling integration while preserving investments in existing infrastructures. The chip is sampling now to key customers, and will be in production in Q4.

ICC says its new JackEasy is an all-in-one tool; compatible with ICC’s voice and data jacks, the tool terminates all four pairs with an evenly balanced blade that seats, terminates and cuts off excess wires in one squeeze. JackEasy is manufactured with a 16-ga steel framework for strength, while the handle is designed with polypropylene for a comfortable grip. The tool includes two blades for terminating both easy (EZ) and slim body (HD) style jacks. It is also designed with a surface base allowing the tool to rest on a table or floor for support during termination.

Panduit says its Pan-Steel super-heavy cable tie system provides a superior bundling solution in applications requiring cables to be safely restrained in the event of a short circuit. Designed to work together, the cable ties, cushion sleeve and tool promise an 80% time savings when compared to conventional cable cleat installations. The patented locking head design allows these ties to meet critical strength requirements for restraining cables in the event of a short circuit. The installation tools feature an adjustable tension control mechanism to provide repeatable installations with consistent bundle tension for improved productivity and reliability. The cushion sleeve provides additional bundle protection against abrasion during/after installation. The cable tie system is part of the complete bundling solution from Panduit.
