General Machine Products Co. Inc.’s (GMP’s) Corner Cable Block line of specialized cable blocks are constructed with true 45º and 90º radii to ensure damage-free travel of utility cables and innerducts around tight corners or bends. They also evenly distribute the load when pulling around corners. Its roller assemblies provide a snag-free gliding motion, making cable and innerduct installation quick and effortless. GMP’s Corner Cable Blocks are engineered to handle most utility cable installations, including: fiber optic cable, coaxial cable and innerduct. Each model has two cable retaining rollers that prevent the cable or innerduct from slipping off the rollers. GMP Corner Cable Blocks feature welded and painted steel frames and polyurethane rollers for durability.

Wiremold/Legrand’s Evolution Series poke-through devices are designed to be installed in 6-in. or 8-in. holes in the slab, but instead of core-drilling these holes after the slab is poured, you can now take advantage of Evolution pre-pour sleeves. The PVC sleeves attach to the structural decking and maintain a 6 1/8-in. or 8 1/8-in. cast-in hole. Each unit includes three attachment legs, thumb screws and end caps. After the pour, you simply removes the sleeve and install the Evolution poke-thru device. (The sleeve is not a fire-classified product and must be removed.) The Evolution 8AT Series device provides up to four gangs of power, communication and/or A/V capability. The 6AT Series provides up to two-and-one-half gangs of power, communication and/or A/V capability. The 6AT is also available as furniture feed device.

Firecomms Ltd.—a developer of plastic optical fiber (POF) transceivers and surface emitting lasers (VCSELs)—has been granted a patent for its OptoLock plastic optical fiber transceiver. The OptoLock is a plugless interface for POF, simplifying fiber optic links in consumer applications. Suitable for 100Mb Ethernet applications such as IPTV gateways, set-top boxes, and residential gateway, OptoLock enables the fiber to be cut and terminated to the exact required length onsite, allowing even the most novice consumer to quickly and easily terminate bare optical fiber.

Duratel’s new line of composite street lights conceals a hollow, weatherproof storage area within where WiFi antennas can be mounted and protected out of sight. The company says property planners can get double duty out of any freestanding street light fixture and build WiFi coverage capabilities into new neighbourhoods. The light poles are made from a composite material that is virtually transparent to WiFi and cellular frequencies, says Duratel, adding they are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free for 80+ years, withstand hurricane-force winds, and will never rot nor corrode. The poles are available in a variety of standard sizes and colours, and can be custom fabricated for architectural themes. Crossbar sign fixtures are optional.

Corning Inc. announced an optical fiber data centre solution enabled by the company’s bend-insensitive ClearCurve optical fiber technology. Corning claims this “first-to-market” offering reduces overall installation time while enabling increased server density and reliability, as well as reduced power consumption. This “future-proof” solution enables more efficient rack space usage, says the company, while ClearCurve’s bend performance—combined with reduced cable diameter—allow trunk cables and jumpers to be quickly routed through tight spaces. The pre-terminated solution allows for faster modifications and additions, without disrupting existing equipment or network operation, says Corning.
