Diversified industrial manufacturer, Eaton Corp., is providing power management support for IBM’s Portable Modular Data Centre (PMDC).

“IBM’s PMDC is part of our strategy to deliver a cost-effective and flexible family of modular data centre solutions to businesses facing significant capital and operational costs,” said Steve Sams, IBM vice president, global site and facilities services.

In 2007, IBM launched Project Big Green and committed $1 billion per year to deliver technologies that help clients increase the level of energy efficiency in their data centres. IBM introduced the PMDC as part of the second phase of Project Big Green to drive modular data centre design solutions to allow clients to pay as they grow, reducing capital and operating costs.

IBM will showcase some of Eaton’s UPSs and electrical solutions as part of its PMDC demonstration unit during the Gartner 28th Data Centre Conference in Las Vegas.
