Nortel to sell optical networking and carrier ethernet businesses |

Nortel Networks Corp.—along with its principal operating subsidiary, Nortel Networks Ltd., and certain of its other subsidiaries—has entered into a ‘stalking horse’ asset sale agreement with Ciena for its North American, Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) and Asian optical networking and carrier ethernet businesses, and an asset sale agreement with Ciena for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) portion of its optical networking and carrier ethernet businesses for a purchase price of $390 million US in cash and 10 million shares of Ciena common stock.

Hatfield replaces Bowick on SCTE Foundation board |

Scott A. Hatfield of Cox Communications has been appointed to the SCTE Foundation board, filling a vacancy created when Christopher Bowick retired from Cox Communications and resigned from the board this past summer. Bowick, who has been an SCTE member since 1981, was senior vice-president, engineering and CTO with Cox.

Representatives from The Green Grid, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy (along with executives from a variety of industries) shared their challenges with data centre energy management and offered practical steps for improvement.
