Companies from across the communications and networking industries—including BreakingPoint Systems, BT, Cisco, Empirix, Ericsson, Exfo, Fanfare Software, Ixia, JDSU, Spirent Communications and Verizon—have joined forces to form the Network Test Automation Forum (NTAF), a global effort designed to promote interoperability between test tools and simplify lab automation efforts.

ZigBee and WiFi alliances collaborate on smart grid wireless networking |

The ZigBee and WiFi alliances will collaborate on wireless home area networks (HANs) for smart grid applications. The initial focus will be ZigBee Smart Energy 2.0, which is the next-generation energy management protocol for smart grid-enabled homes based on the ZigBee Smart Energy Profile. ZigBee Smart Energy 2.0 is expected to operate over WiFi technology as a result of the collaboration.

Firecomms, a developer of high-speed plastic optical fiber (POF) transceivers, has licensed its OptoLock interconnect system to Suttle, a supplier of communication connectivity products for the telecom/datacom industries. OptoLock provides plugless terminations that allow for simpler, quicker connections of communications and infotainment network devices, says Firecomms.
