Fluke Networks is acquiring AirMagnet, a player in performance, security and compliance solutions for wireless LANs. The acquisition of AirMagnet is expected to create a global leader in the fast-growing area of Wi-Fi testing, says Fluke, and further strengthen its worldwide presence in test and analysis for networks—regardless of media type.

Based in Sunnyvale, Calif., AirMagnet’s products allow enterprise IT organizations to ensure the availability, performance, security and compliance of wireless LAN infrastructure. The company’s products include AirMagnet Enterprise (a WLAN security and performance management solution); AirMagnet Wi-Fi Analyzer (a WiFi troubleshooting tool); as well as AirMagnet Survey, AirMagnet Spectrum Analyzer, AirMagnet Planner and AirMedic.

“Together, we expect that the solutions from Fluke Networks and AirMagnet will provide the end-to-end network visibility network engineers need and the actionable information required to deploy, secure, manage, analyze and troubleshoot their networks, independent of media type,” said David Coffin, president of Fluke Networks. “AirMagnet’s products are a fit with Fluke Networks’ philosophy of delivering Network SuperVision.”

Wireless LANs are growing rapidly as a favored network access method for mobility and are increasingly enabling mission-critical applications, says Fluke Networks. For network support teams, these technologies raise new challenges to delivering superior operating service. Together, Fluke Networks and AirMagnet expect to provide customers with the comprehensive visibility required to ensure their network infrastructures are secure, compliant and performing optimally.

“Fluke Networks is a top innovator and recognized leader in Ethernet LAN analysis and their solutions are known worldwide for delivering deep insight into LAN performance, security and optimization,” said Dean T. Au, president of AirMagnet. “The power of a combined Fluke Networks and AirMagnet should help us fulfil more quickly the growth opportunities and product and technology roadmaps to better serve our customers’ evolving needs.”

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close in the coming weeks.
